dbaker  > Parties > Caveman
I helped a friend throw an "over the hill" 40th birthday party for her husband. Instead of the traditional 40th party - black, gag gift type shindig I went with a prehistoric man theme.

dbaker > the completed table without the food. we had baskets, bags, and stone bowls that held the food.
dbaker > table right before guests sat down to eat. i used a few centerpieces but mostly used the food we were serving as the centerpiece. i left the food in it's whole state, as much as possible, trying to keep the food the way caveman would find it - whole fruits, nuts, etc.

dbaker > kinda blurry shot but it shows the jungle vines and lighting. i found green paper lanterns at cost plus for overhead lighting. to make it feel like we were in the jungle i found camo netting at the local army surplus store and cut it all up to make vines. i loved how it looked and have used this vine idea for other things as well, mainly halloween. i add it to our trees to give them a weeping willow spooky look.
dbaker > the tablecloth was faux fur. chargers were stepping stones (see other pictures for a how-to) washcloths for napkins (we ate with our hands - caveman style) i believe we also had small bowls of water on the table for cleaning our hands. napkins were tied with twine and a leaf. namecards were dinosaurs raided from my kids toy chest.
dbaker > the plate chargers. the first step... i got inexpensive stepping stones at home depot. with brown paint i applied "cave drawings" that i found on the internet..
dbaker > step two...i rubbed all the stepping stones with dirt and then hammered away at edges so that they would look old. this one is part way through the step 2 process.
